The Design and Build

The Canon EOS R8 is a well-built and comfortable camera to use. It is surprizingly smaller than some of the other cameras. And it isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

I like how it’s build fits nicely in my camera bag. I, oddly enough, have room for other items. The EOS R8 is relatively compact and lightweight.

It is made from durable materials and has a good weight distribution. The controls are well-placed and easy to reach, and the touchscreen display is responsive. The EOS R8 also has a new design for the top plate, which makes it easier to access the important controls.

The EOS R8 has a number of physical controls, including a dedicated shutter button, dials, and buttons for common functions. The controls are well-placed and easy to reach, even for users with large hands. The EOS R8 also has a touchscreen display that can be used for controlling the camera and setting up menus.

I found it comfortable to hold and use, and it has a good range of physical controls. The touchscreen display is also responsive and easy to use.

It is also very bright, making it easy to see in all lighting conditions. The EOS R8’s touchscreen display can be used to navigate menus, focus on subjects, and take photos and videos.

What is the Video and Image Quality?

The video quality on the Canon EOS R8 is pretty dang good. It can shoot 4K video at up to 60fps in full-frame mode, and it can also shoot 10-bit footage in either C-Log3 or HDR PQ. This gives videographers a lot of flexibility in post-production.

The video footage from the EOS R8 is pretty sharp comparatively, with good color reproduction. The dynamic range is also good, so you can capture a wide range of tones in your footage.

EOS R8

Here are some specific things that are notable about the EOS R8’s video quality:

  • Sharpness and detail: The EOS R8 produces very sharp and detailed video footage. This is due in part to its new 24.2MP CMOS sensor, which has a fast readout speed.
  • Color reproduction: It is accurate and natural-looking colors in its video footage. This is thanks to Canon’s new DIGIC X image processor.
  • Dynamic range: It also has a good dynamic range, so you can capture a wide range of tones in your footage. This is especially useful when shooting in low light or backlit conditions.
  • Autofocus tracking: The EOS R8’s autofocus system works very well in video mode. I noticed it will occasionally try to track something else but it was for a moment before it was back on track.

Overall, the video quality on the Canon EOS R8 is excellent. It is a great camera for videographers who want to produce high-quality video footage with a variety of creative options.

Here are some examples of how the EOS R8’s video capabilities can be used to produce great video footage:

  • Vlogging: A good benefit is you can shoot high-quality video footage with good autofocus and image stabilization.
  • Documentary filmmaking: You can shoot cinematic video footage with good dynamic range and color reproduction.
  • Creative filmmaking: The EOS R8’s video capabilities can be used to create a variety of creative video projects. For example, you can use the 10-bit footage to grade your footage in post-production and create a unique look for your project.

Is the Price Comparable?

In my opinion, for it’s size, what it’s able to do for beginning photographers and vloggers, I’d say the pricing is very decent and worth it. Just because the camera isn’t pricey, doesn’t mean it won’t get the job done or do what it is you’re looking for.

That depends on the photographer/videographer and their willingness to learn the camera in and out. It also depends on the lenses used and the creativity of the person on the other end of the camera.
